CRICKET NEWS - The Six Gun Grill SWD Premier League competition kicked off on Saturday. All four teams that were on the winning side recorded bonus point victories.
Defending champions, Pacaltsdorp United 158/3, made a solid start with a 7-wicket victory against Plett Pioneers (157 all out) when they surpassed the winning target in the 28th over.
George van Heerden – 3/36 with the ball and 83 with the bat – impressed with an all-round performance for Pacaltsdorp.
Sussex (225/8), who gained promotion to the Premier League, also made an impressive start with an 88-runs victory against Harlequins Forces (137 all out) at the Military Sport Club in Oudtshoorn.
Lindl Trim (50) scored a half century for the D'Almeida-based team.
Union Stars had mixed success. Union Stars I (109/2) won by 8 wickets against George (105 all out) with Reagan Rhode who bagged 4/6. Union Stars II was however bowled out for only 64 against Knysna Cavaliers at the Abbotsfield in Rheenendal, whereafter Knysna knocked off the winning target (68/3) with 7 wickets in hand. For Cavaliers, JP Ellis (4/10) and Quinton Visagie (4/14) each bagged four wickets.
