GEORGE NEWS - The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Women recorded an impressive 37-run victory at the Recreation Ground against the Knights in the CSA Hollywoodbets Pro50 Series on Saturday. The visitors from Bloemfontein however turned the fortunes around with a 7-wicket victory in the Pro20 match on Sunday.
In the Pro50 match, the Badgers reached a modest 141 (all out) thanks to a 50-run, 10th wicket partnership between the skipper, Nicolien Janse van Rensburg (49*) and Khyakze Mathe (27).
For the Knighs Lucian Swartz bagged 6/29. The Badgers' bowling performance was outstanding as they dismissed the Knights for only 104 for an important bonus point victory.
Jané Winster was the stand-out performer with figures of 3/23 (in 10 overs).
In the Pro20 match, the Badgers posted a competitive 152/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Nadine Moodley (37) and Askake Nyovane (22) contributed 59 runs for the opening stand.
It was however an 86-run stand for the 3rd wicket between Jana Nel (58) and Nicoleen Janse van Rensburg that enabled the Badgers to get 152/3.
The Knights batters with Verunissa Reddy (66), Miane Smit (43) and Izel Cilliers (25*), however, had other ideas and even broke the record for the highest total by a team batting second in a women's T20 match when they reached the target (155/3) with 6 balls to spare.
