GEORGE CRICKET NEWS - George (88/5), who defeated Mossel Bay (85 all out) comprehensively by 5 wickets last Saturday, finished the season at the top of the table and will directly advance to the final of the SWD Premier League competition.
The defending champions, Union Stars (46/4), who were too strong for Harlequins (44/9), ended in second position and will have a home ground advantage in the play-off match against NMU George.
The NMU students suffered an unexpected defeat against Pioneers on Saturday (lost by 54 runs) but on Sunday they defeated Ramblers by 83 runs to secure a place in the play-offs. Pacaltsdorp (222 all out) – thanks to Neil Hornbuckle (67) and Duren Felix (5/48) - defeated Western Hope (197) by 35 runs.
Ramblers (196 all out), who enjoyed a very good season, lost by 13 runs against Knysna Cavaliers (209/8) on Saturday.
Mossel Bay (8th), Western Hope (9th) and Pacaltsdorp United (10th),the three teams at the bottom of the log, will now, together with the winner of the Promotion league, play out for a place to determine the 8th team that will stay in the Premier league.
As from 2019/20 the Premier league will be reduced to only eight teams.
