GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Nedbank Running Club wishes its South Western Districts (SWD) athletes all the best for the Comrades Marathon.
The Comrades takes place today, 9 June, and started in Durban this morning and will finish in Pietermaritzburg.
A total of 37 runners from Nedbank Running Club in SWD are participating in the marathon.
Samuel Mandlazi, Eddie Mouton and Willard Jussah are the potential silver medallists.
The SWD runners who have the most Comrades medals are Selwyn Losper with 32 medals, Eddie Mouton with 27, Elsabe de Klerk with 26, Alison Jordaan with 19 and Una Saayman with 17 medals.
The club thanked Bahia Bleu restaurant in Mossel Bay, where the athletes gathered on 1 June for a lunch, sport quiz and to receive their Nedbank shirts ahead of the Comrades.
Losper, a Mossel Bay local, said he had an absolute passion for running and trained six days a week.
He is nearing his 60th birthday and said that at this stage he participated in the Comrades for the fun of the run.
