ATHLETICS NEWS - The 2022 Comrades Marathon Expo has kicked off on Thursday, 25 August, and there was great excitement as the build-up to this year's Comrades Marathon started.
This iconic road race will take place this Sunday, 28 August, after the previous two editions had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

You will also be able to find the Comrades Marathon Centenary Monopoly board that was released in collaboration with Monopoly last year. This release coincides with the ultramarathon’s centenary anniversary.
The theme of the most popular board game was the brainchild of Leon Swanepoel, a two times gold medal winner, who has been involved in the sports industry for 30 years.
“I am so excited to be here at the Expo with all the Comrades Marathon participants and supporters,” Swanepoel said.
“For everyone who has participated in the Comrades Marathon, this board will surely also awaken some memories and now everyone, even those who never participated, can experience it in a different way,” he explained.
The Comrades Marathon Centenary Monopoly board is available at an Expo special rate of R680.00 and is extended online as well - click here: www.marathonmonopoly.com
When visiting the stand (number 118) make sure to enter the Toyota, AmaBeadiBeadi Win-A-Car Competition and stand a chance of winning a Toyota Corolla.
Buy a Comrades Marathon Monopoly at the same time and you will receive two more chances of winning the Toyota Corolla.
The Sportsvendo team are also giving away a pair of Comrades Marathon Flip Flops with every 20th sale of a Comrades Marathon Centenary Monopoly board.
“This year’s Expo has attracted the likes of Dischem, Gu Energy Lab, Garmin, SA Society of Physiotherapy, KZN Sharks Board, Automobile Association of SA, Kyron Laboratories, various government departments and will include CMA sponsors, Mr Price Sport, First National Bank, Toyota and the Official Comrades Charities. The Expo is where ordinary South Africans, Comrades supporters and athletes themselves can be exposed to the latest brands and innovations,” said CMA Marketing Manager, Delaine Cools, in a press release earlier this month.
The post-Covid race fever forced race organisers to increase the cap for this biggest and oldest ultra-marathon. The cap used to be 15 000 and increased to 20 000 for 2022.
Visit the Expo and support the exhibitors as they showcase their offerings.
“The atmosphere is electric and there is an overall feeling of gratitude. We are proud, excited and grateful,” Swanepoel said.
Visit the Expo from Thursday, 25 August to Saturday, 27 August at the Durban International Convention Centre (DICC).
