SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - February is here and that means it is once again time for the ever popular annual Cango Marathon.
The race takes place on 25 February and will start at 06:00. The various distances include two races of 42,2km and 21,1km each and a 21,1km walk. The 42,2km race begins at the Cango Caves while the 21,1km run and the 21,1km walk starts at Ou Tol on the way to the Caves. All the races end at the Oudtshoorn Military Base Sport Grounds. Transport for the marathon to the Cango Caves will depart from the Infantry School Parade Grounds from 04:30 until 05:30. The cut off time for the marathon is at 11:00 and for the half-marathon at 09:00.
Those walking the 21,1km stretch have to cross the finish line by 10:00.
The closing date for pre-entries is Wednesday 16 February and no late entries will be accepted. This scenic route is set on a gradual decline and is therefore ideally suited for those aiming at setting a personal best or qualifying for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons. Every kilometre of the route will be marked. Refreshments will be available every 3 km, and for the last 10 km, every 2nd km.
Prizes and Give-aways:
T-shirts will go to the first 100 pre-entries on the full marathon, the first 50 on the half marathon and the first 50 on the Walk.
Gold medals go to category winners, silver medals to runners who finish in less than three hours and bronze medals for every one that completes the race. There will also be lots and lots of lucky draws!
