GEORGE NEWS - The eighth annual Red Men Trail Run, hosted by Chain Gang Events at Herold Wines in the stunning Outeniqua Mountains, saw about 200 athletes participating in the 5km fun run, 12km, and challenging 18km trail on Saturday 6 January.
The cool and overcast weather set the stage for an exciting day of trail running.
Iain Peterkin clinched victory in the nail-biting 18km men's race with a time of 1:24:19, while Mary-Lee Botha dominated the ladies' 18km race, winning in 1:48:18. Johann Olivier secured the top spot in the 12km men's race with a time of 1:03:50.
In the ladies' 12km race Bailee Nell took the win with a time of 1:15:11, Ronel de Bruyn crossed the line in second place with a time of 1:24:25 and Leonie Cooper took the third spot on the podium with a time of 1:24:53.
The event, fully booked with over 200 entries, received positive reviews for its organization and the breathtaking mountainous backdrop.
Louw de Bruyn and Anine Oosthuizen claimed victory in the 5km fun run races. The successful event left both local and visiting athletes eager to return next year.

Avril Davids finished her 12km run in a personal best time of 1:53:59.
