SCHOOL NEWS - The application period applies to learners in Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12.

This year, the WCED has introduced a revised application process. Depending on the reason for the transfer, applications must either be submitted online or directly to the school or district office.

Online applications are available only for learners who meet specific transfer criteria, including when a learner has reached the highest grade offered at their current school, when a parent or caregiver has relocated for work, or when the family has moved to a new residential area.

Parents who do not meet these criteria, but wish to transfer their child to another school, must submit a hard-copy Transfer Request Form directly to their preferred school.

Hard-copy applications are also required for transfers involving documented learner vulnerability concerns, access to specialised medical or psychological treatment, or where the learner is a ward of the state.

Parents and caregivers must submit the learner's latest school report, identification documents and proof of residence, or a police affidavit where applicable.

The WCED also reminded parents that schools are currently finalising placements for Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners for the 2027 school year. 

Those who have not yet applied for these grades should contact their district office as soon as possible, as the online admissions system for these grades has closed.
