GEORGE NEWS - The Conville Library was a hive of excitement on Thursday 11 September as the Grade Five learners of Heidedal and Rosemoor Primary competed in a lively spelling bee.
Beyond spelling, the competition gave these learners the chance to build confidence on stage.
Heidedal walked away with three top honours: Jenelda Miggels won the Afrikaans leg of the competition, Oyama Afrika took the English leg, and Meigon van Wyngaardt claimed first place in the Afrikaans book review section.
Rosemoor Primary also had a shining moment with Sirna Makwatie who won the English book review competition.
The library created a festive atmosphere, decorating the venue with an arch of lights and a special podium for the young contestants.
Teacher Clifton Kleinbooi of Rosemoor Primary encouraged the learners with the inspiring words: "Everything that begins, begins here! In 10 years you will be in the adult world, where you will occupy a position. Don't underestimate yourself."
The event was proudly sponsored by Wayne King and a few anonymous sponsors.
