SCHOOL NEWS - Located in the scenic Karoo town of Graaff-Reinet, Union High School has made significant strides in 2024. This co-educational, English-medium institution, offering boarding facilities, has excelled academically while enhancing its campus infrastructure to create a safe and inspiring learning environment.
A standout achievement this year was the Class of 2024's impressive matric results, which included the top candidate in Graaff-Reinet and the first and third top candidates in the entire Dr Beyers Naudé municipal region.
Joy Merrifield, the top achiever, celebrated an average of 88.29% with six distinctions, while Na'eem Mahomed, the head boy, secured third place with 80% and three distinctions. This marks the fifth consecutive year Union High School has produced the top matriculant in the area.
In addition to academic success, the school has enhanced its facilities, including the resurfacing of the astroturf and the construction of a new astroturf at Union Preparatory School. Safety and security have also been prioritised with the installation of CCTV cameras in classrooms and common areas, ensuring a secure learning environment.
Renovations to the life sciences classroom and lecture room reflect the school's dedication to academic excellence, fostering engaging spaces for learning. A new first-aid room, utilised during the winter sports programme, highlights the school's commitment to learner health and safety.
As Union High School concludes a successful year, it stands as a beacon of academic excellence and holistic development, preparing its learners for a bright future.
