GEORGE NEWS - Newly built houses priced from R320 000 upwards are still available in Syferfontein through the Help Me Buy a Home programme of the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements.
The homes consist of two bedrooms, one bathroom and a combined kitchen and living room and are available to first-home buyers whose household income is between R3 501 and R22 000 per month.
Subsidy under the Flisp (Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme) is available to help such residents acquire a home through the Help Me Buy a Home programme.
The department on Tuesday 14 February said over 500 affordable housing opportunities are currently available in its three developments in Syferfontein, Eerste River in Cape Town and Bredasdorp. Of these, 64 are available in Syferfontein. The development in Syferfontein consists of 147 houses of which 83 have already been sold to qualifying beneficiaries.
According to the department's communications director, Nathan Adriaanse, qualifying applicants will receive a subsidy based on their gross household income to assist in reducing monthly bond or loan payments.
People interested in the Syferfontein houses may contact Nosizwe Sokopo or Billy Jacob on 044 011 0311 or visit them at Suite 24 C, Courtenay Street.
More information is also available from the department's help desk on 021 483 6488 / 0611 / 8984 / 0623 / 2060 or at human.settlements@westerncape.gov.za.
Adriaanse said there are multiple benefits to home-ownership.
"To most a home represents stability, ownership of an asset with value that will increase over time, and providing a legacy within the family that many generations can benefit from. A home also helps to build communities, since many homeowners get involved in the affairs of the neighbourhood for the betterment of the entire community."
Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers encouraged young professionals, first-time homeowners and those starting a family to research the options available to get their foot into the property market.
The homes consist of two bedrooms, one bathroom and an open-plan kitchen and lounge.
