GEORGE NEWS - The long awaited quarterly audit reports served before the George Council last week Thursday - just in time before the lunch break. Council accepted the recommendations as set out in the July report without any further ado.
The recommendations of the January, April and May reports, however, have been referred to the MPAC (Municipal Public Accounts Committee), who will in turn report back on these matters to Council.
Items on audit reports were withdrawn by Council in May and again in July. Two audit committee members waiting in the gallery on Thursday were visibly satisfied when their reports were tabled.
The Audit Committee's concern with the overall management of the upgrade of Caledon Street forms part of their July report.
They recommend that Council investigate the reasons for the delays in the completion of the project, appointment process of the contractor and the quality of work performed by the contractor.
