GEORGE NEWS - A former proportional councillor of the Good party in George, Given Masase, resigned from Good and joined the DA.
This follows in the wake of three resignations by ward councillors of the Good party earlier this year.
The by-elections for these wards will take place on 19 July (read the story on page 10). One of the former ward councillors, Richard Hector, did rejoin the Good party shortly after the story hit the news.
In a statement yesterday morning (Wednesday 21 June), the DA says they are pleased with Masase's move. "In his resignation letter, Mr Masase expressed his intention to continue serving the public, stating, 'I believe there's still a lot to contribute'. We wholeheartedly embrace Mr Masase's enthusiasm and commitment to public service and look forward to working together to make a positive impact in communities in George," reads the statement.
Hot on the heels of this announcement yesterday, the Good party officially released their chosen candidates for the by-elections in wards 16, 20 and 27.
Good applied for an urgent interdict to stop the by-election in Ward 27 from going ahead.
Their statement reads, "Unfortunately the interdict was not granted and Good stands ready to defend Hector and return him as the community of Pacaltsdorp's choice for ward councillor."
Masase's resignation will not lead to a by-election as he was not a ward councillor.
