GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Two of the seven inmates who escaped from the Makhanda Correctional Service facility were re-arrested.
This followed the implementation of a 72-hour activation plan since their reported escape on Tuesday, 18 October.
On the same day, the breakthrough was made when an escapee, Bennet Kwarrie, was re-arrested in Bloemfontein.
On Wednesday evening, 19 October, around 22:00, a joint task team between the SAPS and Correctional Service officers re-arrested a second inmate near Committees Drift.
According to Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, spokesperson for the SAPS in the Sarah Baartman district, the recaptured inmate, Simba Masinga was nabbed while hiding in the bushes. Masinga's arrest brings down the number of escapees who are still at large to five.
Police are warning the community that these escapees are dangerous and should not be approached - the police must be contacted instead.
The community is also urged not to protect these criminals as aiding and abetting them is a criminal offence.
