NATIONAL NEWS - Following a tip-off, KwaMbonambi police have arrested a man who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
This happened during a police operation conducted at Nhlabane Reserve, in the early hours of Monday.
Members found the suspect asleep, with a 9mm pistol next to him, and three live rounds.
According to the police, the suspect failed to produce a firearm licence, and was then arrested.
The 9mm pistol (S/R Number T6368/17BL017432) was seized plus one magazine and the ammunition.
‘It is alleged that the firearm was stolen during a house robbery at Nhlanzini Reserve near KwaMbonambi on 27 July last year.
‘An adult female was sleeping at her homestead, when armed unknown males entered inside the room, demanding the safe keys.
‘They took the said firearm and shotgun 12 GA with Serial Number U217-11505.
‘On Monday afternoon the shotgun was also recovered due to witness assistance,’ said police.
On Tuesday morning, the suspect Sithembiso Makhaye (38) appeared at KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to next Tuesday.
Both firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they have been used in any other criminal activities in the province.
