NATIONAL NEWS - More than nine years after a warrant of arrest was issued for a former flying squad member charged with murder, he is still on the run.
The former Midrand Flying Squad officer, Lt Col Barend Christiaan du Piesanie from Bonaero Park, was arrested for a murder that allegedly occurred on 25 October 2009.
“On the day, it is alleged Du Piesanie got into an argument with his then tenant and a fight broke out,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The former tenant, who was 27 at the time, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital where he later died.”
Mtshali said Du Piesanie, who was 50 at the time, was arrested and released on bail.
“According to records, Du Piesanie’s last court appearance was on 7 July 2010, but he failed to again appear in court on 3 November 2010,” said Mtshali.
The warrant of arrest was issued on 23 November 2010.
