NATIONAL NEWS - The Alexandra man who allegedly hacked a 17-year-old girl to death with a panga and attempted to murder a 10-year-old child is now under police guard in hospital after allegedly attempting suicide by poisoning.
The child is in a critical condition in Baragwanath Hospital.
The deceased, who is at a government mortuary, is a younger sister of the man’s estranged girlfriend. The child is the ex-girlfriend’s. It is, however, not known if the suspect is the father.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said they were alerted by informants of the man’s whereabouts in the Helen Joseph Hospital, where he was found and charged.
