NATIONAL NEWS - There is no end in sight for motorists in the petroleum strike, now in its fifth day.
Shortages or sporadic supplies have been reported at petrol stations in some parts of the country.
Petroleum industry workers started the national strike on Thursday, demanding a 9% increase. Emergency medical services have not yet been hit by the strike.
ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said: “We are in contact with several companies who have been keeping us updated on fuel levels.” Chevron SA, which has a huge refinery in Cape Town, said it had prepared for the strike in an effort to reduce the impact on motorists.
“Refinery operations are continuing and we are doing as much as possible to maintain the supply of fuel to our national network of Caltex stations,” spokeswoman Suzanne Pullinger said.
