The municipalities are Magareng, Ubuntu, Thembelihle, Dikgatlong and Renosterberg.
The supply will be switched off from 10am and then again from 6pm until 8pm.
The power utility says it's also sent letters to seven municipalities in Mpumalanga, warning them to pay up or face the same action.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the municipalities have been defaulting on payments for the past three years.
“On average about three years of defaulting, sometimes even more, depending on the municipality. Not to say they were not paying, they were, but not in full and unfortunately these amounts accumulate interest.”
Last year, Eskom announced its plans to interrupt bulk electricity supply to the top 20 defaulting municipalities across the country with effect from 5 June 2015.
It said that of the R4,6 billion owed to Eskom by municipalities, the top 20 defaulting municipalities were indebted to Eskom to the amount of R3,68 billion.
