CPUT campus shut as protests get violent

NATIONAL NEWS - The situation at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has descended into violence in the past hour, with protesting students damaging property and looting buildings at the Bellville campus.

Hundreds of students gathered at the institution as part of the nationwide Fees Must Fall protests.

Management has shut down the campus and police are keeping an eye on the demonstrators.

Earlier students vandalised the institution's Bellville Administration Building.

Scores of students have been protesting against fee hikes.
