Another SABC journalist in hot water for speaking out

NATIONAL NEWS - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has charged TV journalist Lukhanyo Calata with contravening its rules after he publicly spoke out about the “disturbing direction” taken by the public broadcaster.

Calata, the son of one of the four Cradock civic leaders abducted and killed by security police in the 1980s, expected repercussions for speaking up.

He said as much in an interview with Eyewitness News during Friday's anti-censorship protest.

“Repercussions were always going to come after the statement I put out on Monday, after the interviews I did on Monday. It’s more important for me to be here today to stand in solidarity with my own colleagues.”
