Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that a 21-year-old man was arrested in Van Duuren Street, Gelvandale, on Monday for a shooting over the weekend that left one man shot in the upper leg.
“It is alleged that on Sunday at about 8pm four men were standing at a block of flats in Shauderville when they noticed a vehicle dropping off two men.
“The men walked in the direction of the group and starting shooting at them,” she said.
“One person was shot in his right upper leg. The suspects then ran off. One of the suspect’s is known to the complainant.”
Naidu added that the man has already been linked to the murder of Ferdinand Gysman, 24, on December 18 in Kemdrick Street, Gelvandale.
“A bullet struck a 24-year-old victim in his back.”
The man, who police are only naming after he appears in court, is due to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow for Gysman’s murder and Sunday’s attempted murder.
Last week Wednesday, Anthony “Nabbas” Ruiters was arrested for allegedly being linked to a shooting in November.
According to Naidu, Ruiters will remain in custody until Friday when he is due to appear in the same court for a formal bail application.
