GEORGE NEWS - Both the Saasveld control burn and the Touwsranten veld fire have been declared closed following the arrival of cooler weather and light overnight rain.
Wilderness resident Carole Durrant described the unexpected rainfall in Touwsranten as “Godsent,” providing much-needed relief after days of tension.
The George Municipality confirmed that George Fire Services and their partners will continue to monitor both areas periodically to ensure there are no flare-ups.
Officials expressed their gratitude to all role players and the public for their cooperation and support throughout the incidents.
