NATIONAL NEWS - There’s been mixed reaction to the findings and recommendations of the fees commission report.
President Jacob Zuma finally released the more than 700-page document looking into the feasibility of free higher education on Monday.
Zuma established the Heher Commission in January last year.
It was chaired by retired Judge Jonathan Heher after the first wave of nationwide student protests.
There’s been different reaction to the fees commission report, which has found that free higher education for all is not viable and that other funding models will have to be explored.
Pretoria University’s SRC’s Kwena Moloto has welcomed the recommendation to scrap application and registration fees across the board.
“Something that SRC for years have been fighting for.”
Universities South Africa's Ahmed Bawa says that he’s pleased that the report has given great focus to the development of TVET colleges.
