MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Authorities have confirmed the first case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in the Mossel Bay area.
The outbreak was detected on a farm outside Hartenbos, raising concern among livestock farmers across the region.
George state veterinarian Dr Leana Janse van Rensburg has strongly discouraged the continuation of livestock auctions in the George state veterinary area.
“The outbreak in the areas is still under investigation as to the extent of the affected properties, and it would be irresponsible at this stage to continue with the gathering of animals from different sources, which may be in the incubation stage of infection, before the full extent of the outbreak has been determined,” she said.
Authorities urge farmers to implement strict biosecurity measures and monitor their herds closely. Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
