NATIONAL NEWS - South African-born actress Charlize Theron says the rate at which young people are dying due to HIV and Aids should frighten the world.

Theron, who is a United Nations Messenger of Peace, was speaking at the 2016 International Aids Conference in Durban.

The five-day event is aimed at improving the fight against HIV and Aids.

Theron says young people are the forgotten ones when it comes to fighting Aids.

"HIV/Aids is the number one killer of adolescents in Africa and sub Saharan Africa and the number two killer of adolescents globally. Why are we not caring about that? This is a nationwide, global wide issue."
