Spokesperson Constable Lerato Ngomane said the crime at the Engen Garage in Lewerik Street in Kwaggasrand was committed last Wednesday around 18:55.
A cash-in-transit vehicle stopped at the Engen garage to collect cash from the shop at the fuel station. While a guard from the van was doing so, a white Hyundai crashed into the vehicle.
An armed man from the Hyundai confronted the guard carrying two money boxes to the van and held him at gunpoint. Eight more men armed with rifles arrived. They ordered the driver of the van out of the vehicle and told him and the guard to lie down.
One of the men then entered the garage shop and cleared out the till before the robbers fled in the Hyundai and a second car.
