NATIONAL NEWS - On 25 January, CapeNature hosted the inaugural Cubs Club Connect event at the picturesque Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve outside of Stellenbosch, offering a fun-filled day for Cubs Club members and their families.
This exciting new annual event brought together young nature enthusiasts to learn valuable lessons all while enjoying the outdoors with their families.
“We are thrilled to have introduced this new event to our Cubs Club members,” said Dr Ashley Naidoo, CEO CapeNature. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for children to learn essential skills in a social environment while enjoying the natural beauty of our reserves.”
The theme of this year’s event, “Fire and nature” gave members the opportunity to learn about fire safety, engage in role-playing activities, and participate in a fire hazard scavenger hunt and hike.
Natanya Dreyer, who heads up CapeNature’s Learning and Awareness programmes says, “The children had the opportunity to explore the vital role fire plays in nature and how to safely manage it, all while honing their skills through interactive, hands-on activities. The Cubs Club Connect event is part of CapeNature’s initiative to inspire a love for the outdoors, while educating young minds about conservation.”
By joining the Cubs Club, children and families gain access to exclusive events like this one, and it’s completely free to sign up! Members also receive 20% discount on accommodation for their birthdays and a jam-packed welcome pack to get their conservation journey started.
Teachers, group leaders and existing clubs can now also sign up as a Cubs Club group and enjoy numerous additional benefits. Two groups, one from Stellenbosch and another from Hanover Park also attended the event on Saturday.
