Leaked on the Ferd Fanpage on Facebook and subsequently published by indianautosblog.com, the documents details both the standard Jimny and more upmarket Jimny Sierra, showing not only the ladder frame chassis and both model’s retention of a low range gearbox, surprisingly engaged via a second gear lever transfer case as opposed to the outgoing model’s button setup, but also a ground clearance of 210mm.

While most of the information regarding measurements for the Jimny proved a tad too difficult to divulge despite extensive translation, what could be extracted is the newcomer will have a wheelbase of 2 250mm, width of 1 475mm, height of 1 725mm, the ability to shift from 2H to 4H at speeds up to 100km/h, has a turning circle of 4.8m and a weight of 1 030kg for the manual and 1 040kg for the automatic.

In Japan where the Jimny will be sold as a kei car, power will come from a 660cc turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine developing 47kW/96Nm, mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. In the case of the bigger Sierra, both transmission choices are retained, but with the blown three-cylinder making way for a normally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol that makes 75kW/130Nm.

Unlike the kei Jimny, the Sierra will likely be the model that most exports markets would receive, with the leaked documents suggesting it will an overall length of 3 550mm, the same 2 250mm wheelbase and a height of 1 730mm and height of 1 730mm. For manual models, the Sierra tips the scales at 1 070kg with the automatic being 20kg heavier.

Despite specification being ineligible to decipher, what is known as that the kei Jimny will be available in three trim levels; XG, XL, and XC, while the Sierra will be offered in JL and JC flavours. A choice of nine standard colours will be available including three two-tone body hues and a single lime finish with the roof in black.

Although Suzuki South Africa has not announced the availability of the new Jimny yet, expect it to arrive towards the end of the year or in early 2019.
