Money, money and more money
It has been around for decades and it is the one thing that we don’t have enough of. Money is and will always be the ideal gift, regardless of the occasion for a petrolhead. You see, with money we can buy the relevant car parts we need. Some items are very specific and need to be ordered online, before the hunt to source them from another part of the world begins. These items cost money and the chances of a non-car appreciating member of the family knowing how much they are is very unlikely. This is why our number one gift idea is money, however, some might still find the idea rather impersonal and instead opt for a traditional gift. Thus, here are some alternatives to cash.
Ok so money is the default gift idea but some may find that far to impersonal and would rather insist on buying a gift. Here are our alternatives to cold hard cash gift ideas.
Car Care Products
Car care products are without doubt a must as you never know when a photo opportunity may arise. Chances are that a bottle of car shampoo or indeed polish is presently in your petrolhead's car or garage at this very moment. The best thing to do is to find out the name of the products and purchase the same because these were most probably bought for a reason. Many major retail stores have complete car care kits which include buckets, sponges, soaps cloths and polishes.
Old stuff
Petrolheads love old motoring related items. For example, old signboards from petrol stations or oil tins, in fact, anything old-fashioned that you can get from an antique store. Many rusted signs pertaining to cars or fuel and oil have been restored and preserved. There’s nothing like a good old rusty Castrol Oil sign hanging in the garage.
Toys
For many car people, a car is just a bigger version of the toy cars that they used to play with when they were younger. Unfortunately, many of us used to play with Ferrari’s and Lamborghinis. Secretly we still want to play with them and continue dreaming. There are a number of hobby shops around your area with a vast array of collectable model cars on offer. Find out what car your loved one really dreams of and go out and buy it for them, even if it’s only 1:16 scale version. You could also get them a model car that they need to assemble themselves. This will keep them busy and off the internet looking for another car to buy for a good few days.
R/C Cars
Radio Control cars are also high on our list because there is a wide variety and unlike model cars, these actually move, and some move really quickly. You could purchase an already built one or you could get the one that needs to be assembled. We recommend the latter because true petrolheads live by the saying, built not bought. What’s more is that once the R/C car is built, you can join a local club where enthusiasts meet up, mostly in mall parking lots on a Friday night and race each other.
Gadgets and Clothes
Lastly, we come to the vast world of gadgets. There are so many out there that can benefit the modern petrolhead in your family. a few ideas we have include a smartphone mount for GPs use and a Bluetooth radio frequency streamer with UsB for those who don’t have a car with built-in UsB and Bluetooth. Clothes are also a welcome gift as we can never have enough car branded clothing. Just find out what car or racing team your petrolhead supports, as you don’t want to buy a Mercedes-aMG F1 shirt only for them to end up being a Ferrari supporter. We do hope that these ideas have helped you in some way or another. Let us know if you have any other gift ideas. Happy shopping and may you all have a fantastic festive season.
