Individual segments were however generally positive with only new passenger vehicle sales ending in the red after a posting a hefty 13.8% decline from 31 139 to exactly 27 000. For the first time in months, light commercial sales ended on a high by recording a 7.1% hike from 13 191 to 14 123.

In a continuation from last year, medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle sales remained strong with the former rising by 14.3% to 662 units, and the latter by eight percent to 1 466 vehicles. Also on the up were exports which rose by 22.5% to settle at 33 731 from last year’s 27 529.

Aside from the results, the latest figures were highlighted by the separation of sales of the Toyota Corolla, in that the automaker has opted to provide individual figures of the standard model, the Corolla Quest and the all-new Corolla hatchback launching later this month.

At the same time, Audi has separated sales of the A3 from an overall figure (provided) to those of its respective variants such as the sedan (127), three-door (2), cabriolet (9) and Sportback (215), while Mercedes-Benz has, for the first time, provided an aggregate figure for all of its passengers cars including the smart brand (1 207), and commercial vehicles currently made up of the X-class (88).
