The latest model to ride on parent company Toyota’s TNGA platform, called Global Architecture-Luxury (GA-C), the UX, based on information obtained from the online brochure, will be offered in three trim levels and two engines, all teamed to a CVT with drive going to the front wheels.
Starting the range off, the base EX comes equipped with automatic levelling LED headlights, electrically folding and heated mirrors, rain sense wipers, dual-zone climate control, a 10.3-inch infotainment system with touchpad controller, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and up to four USB ports, synthetic leather seats with the fronts being heated, an eight-speaker sound system, cruise control, wireless smartphone charger, a multi-function steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Priced at R599 000, the EX comes powered by a normally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 126kW/205Nm, which Lexus claims translates to a top speed of 190km/h and 0-100km/h in 9.2 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.1-litres/100km.
Next up in the range, the R699 000 SE adds electro-chromatic mirrors with memory function and Blind Spot Monitoring, as well as real leather upholstery, a panoramic rear-view mirror, electrically adjustable steering column, Adaptive Cruise Control, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Auto High Beam Assist.
In SE guise, power comes from the same 2.0-litre motor as the EX, but with the addition of an electric motor and a model specific CVT for a total system output of 107kW/180Nm. In hybrid form, the UX will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds, before topping out at 177km/h. The combined fuel consumption is a claimed 4.5-litres/100km.
Sitting at the sharp-end, the F-Sport carries a sticker price of R726 600 and mirrors the specification level of the SE but with the same powertrain as the EX, mainly adding to a F-Sport specific bodykit, Adaptive Variable Suspension and steering, an F-Sport leather trimmed steering wheel, alloy pedals and a Sport+ mode to the three mode (Eco, Normal and Sport) Drive Mode Selector.
In all, the UX can be had in 13 colours; White Quartz, White Nova, Sonic Platinum, Platinum Silver, Black, Mercury Grey, Graphite Black, Amber, Madder Red, Blazing Carnelian, Terrane Khaki, Celestial Blue and Poseidon Blue with the EX and SE available in five interior colours; Black, White Ash, Rich Cream, B-Ocher and Cobalt, while the F-Sport has three options; White, F-Black and Flare Red.
A seven-year/105 000 km warranty and a maintenance plan are standard across the range.
