Like with its international siblings, the locally-built Ranger’s exterior tweaks consists of new headlights with integrated daytime running LEDs, a new front bumper and grille, restyled door handles, redesigned front fog lights, a new tailgate with lift assistance and three new colours; Diffused Silver, Blue Lighting and Saber Orange, the latter along with a new titanium-look finish on the grille reserved solely for the Wildtrak.
Although the interior has largely been kept unchanged sans the introduction of a Ebony Black finish, satin chrome and gloss black detailing as well as Saber Orange inserts and carbon fibre-like weave on the seats of the Wildtrak, the biggest revisions comes in the safety and driver assistance systems department, where said model now comes with semi-autonomous parking, Lane Keeping Assist, Auto High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
Up front, the Ranger will come powered by the carryover 2.2 TDCI and 3.2 TDCI turbodiesel engines, in addition to the all-new 2.0 EcoBlue four-cylinder in both single and bi-turbocharged configurations, all of which are manufactured at the Struandale Plant near Port Elizabeth.
In its familiar displacement forms, the 2.2 again produces 88 kW and 285 N.m in workhorse models and 118 kW and 385 N.m in XL, XLS and XLT guises, while the while the 3.2-litre five-cylinder retains its outputs of 147 kW and 470 N.m. Taken from the European-spec model though, the single turbo EcoBlue churns out 132 kW and 420 N.m in the XLT, while the latter motor, which will also power the Ranger Raptor, produces 157 kW and 500 N.m and is offered as an option on the Wildtrak.
Transmission-wise, the 2.2-litre workhorse is outfitted with a five-speed manual gearbox with a six-speed manual standard on the XL, XLS and XLT as well as on the 3.2. A six-speed automatic is once again option on the latter versions. The EcoBlue meanwhile comes equipped as standard with the 10-speed automatic co-developed with General Motors, though restricted to the double cab.
A four year/120 000 km warranty and six year/90 000 km service plan is standard on all models.
