While Dongfeng and PSA Peugeot Citroën signed a global strategic partnership last year with a sales target of 1.5 million vehicles by 2020, the company is aiming for over 650 000 vehicles in China this year.
DPCA will build Dongfeng Citroën and Dongfeng Peugeot and Fengshen-badged SUVs and MPVs at the new plant, with the total capacity of the plant ultimately reaching 300 000 vehicles annually.
Current plants in Wuhan are running on two shifts to produce 750 000 vehicles a year and with the fourth plant production, numbers will raise to one million vehicles a year in 2016.
Work is expected to begin later this year with the first car anticipated to roll off the new assembly lines by 2016.
