GEORGE NEWS - Youth Day was celebrated in Rosemoor on Saturday 15 June with live performances by artists like Hakkiesdraad Hart-man, Lady Thato, Tido B (T System) and Athie.
According to Ras Hein of the organisation Reform the United Nations Now (Runn), the day was celebrated to honour the memory of the student uprising in Soweto on 16 June 1976.
"During this uprising, students marched in protest against the poor quality of education they received and demanded to be taught in their own languages. It celebrates the children of Africa and calls for serious introspection and commitment to addressing the numerous challenges faced by children across the continent," he said.
A total of 100 meals, consisting of a 'chip vetkoek' and a cooldrink, were handed out to children in the area.
