GEORGE NEWS - The New Dawn Park sportsgrounds in Pacaltsdorp came alive with music, energy and purpose on Saturday 21 June, as Legally You, in partnership with the Pacaltsdorp sector commanders and Edenfm, hosted their annual Youth Day event.
With the theme of empowerment, prevention and healing, the event united community leaders, government departments and young people in a powerful stand against gender-based violence and femicide.
Adv Marilyn Scheepers Olifant, founder of Legally You, delivered a passionate address on the impact of bullying among the youth.
"Too many young lives are impacted by silence and fear. Today we speak out, we educate, and we stand together," she said.
Free legal advice, trauma counselling, protection order assistance and referrals to support centres were made available throughout the day. Pastor Peter Juta of the Pacaltsdorp SAPS Neighborhood Watch offered spiritual guidance and motivation for those in need of hope.
Cultural performances added vibrancy to the day. Local band Bottomline, featuring Geraldo Lewis, and rising star YSK uplifted the crowd with soulful and energetic sets. The event was MCed by Edenfm presenters Pat and Jonny.
The YeBoneers and other information booths provided access to vital services and information in education, health and employment.
Key partners included the Smoking and Alcohol Harms Alleviation and Rehabilitation Association (Sahara), George Municipality, Garden Route District Municipality, the Western Cape Government's e-Services, Thuthuzela Care Centre, the YeBoneers, Hopesters International and the Pacaltsdorp CPF - all offering on-site services and support.
