GEORGE NEWS - A 52-year-old woman was hit and killed by a car on the bridge on the N9 (Outeniqua Pass) near Step Aside Conference Venue and Accommodation on Saturday 1 March.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, a culpable homicide docket was opened following the incident that took place at around 10:00.
Emergency services responded to a scene where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.
The victim sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she was later declared deceased. The investigation into this matter continues.
Residents of the area said this specific part of the road has become very dangerous and that there are often accidents involving pedestrians. They appeal to the municipality and/or Sanral to assist with safety measurements like speed humps. "Motorists come flying down the hill around the bend. It's really getting quite dangerous. Something needs to be done before we lose another life," a resident says.
