GEORGE NEWS - Knee-high grass at a park in Fernridge adjacent to Andrew Swart Drive had a resident at his wits' end. This situation was quickly resolved when the contractors sailed in last week, mowing the green wilderness to the ground.
Although the resident is relieved that the park is now ready for all to play a game of football or walk the dog, he said it is a pity that they had to wait throughout the December holidays for action. "We couldn't do anything there, the grass was too tall," he says.
Director of Community Services Dawie Adonis explains that the municipality recently awarded a new tender for grass-cutting contractors, which became effective this month.
"The contractors are still familiarising themselves with the various areas and schedules, which has caused some delays in the grass-cutting cycle," says Adonis.
"We appreciate the community's patience and assure residents that we are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible."
The contractors are RS Environmental Services (new contractor) and Lavalia Gardens, a returning contractor now servicing different areas than before.
