GEORGE NEWS - At the general meeting of U3A on Wednesday 28 March Bertrand Reichen will deliver a lecture entitled 'Horology - the history and craftsmanship of what makes the clock tick'.
Reichen and his partner Patrick Belleme are the co-owners of Time Machine, the high class Knysna clock and watch specialists on Thesen Island.
They are passionate about horology and want to open a living museum featuring beautiful specialist timepieces where visitors can watch the watchmakers at work.
Reichen and his team of watchmakers will bring several clocks, watches and chiming Grandfather clocks with them and will explain the history of horology, and how and why it started, covering the early days right up to modern times. Active audience participation will be encouraged.
This is a lecture not to be missed. It will be held at Emmaüs.
Tea is at 10:00 and the lecture starts at 10:30. All visitors are welcome. For further information, phone Mike Holland on 044 620 2589.
