GEORGE NEWS - The daily water usage from 4 to 9 January was 31,25 megalitres per day, in stark contrast to the target of 22 megalitres per day.
To add insult to injury the Norwegian weather station Yr* says a dry and hot spell lies ahead, with the first rain only due on Thursday 18 January.
However, according to AccuWeather there will be some showers on Monday 15 January.
In the week from 21 December to 27 December, 41,7mm rain was recorded.
The weekly rainfall reading on 4 January was 16mm and the dam had dropped to 78,86% as a result of the heat wave and influx of visitors. Yesterday, 10 January, the measured dam level was 77,74% - down from last week by 1,12%.
The municipality recorded 5,5mm of rain since last week.
According to the SA Weather Services, today, 11 January, will soar to 33°C. Although the dam level is fairly stable, the restrictions remain in force.
The current water restrictions for George are:
Restricted watering of gardens using a handheld hose and municipal water is allowed: even-numbered households Mondays and Thursdays, 19:00 to 21:00 only, and uneven-numbered households Tuesdays and Fridays, 19:00 to 21:00 only.
Mechanical irrigation of gardens (sprayers) using municipal water is prohibited.
