Intermittend supply
The reservoirs that service Wilderness and surrounds are being filled by method of intermittent supply – a complex balancing that will hopefully allow the system to return to normal by the end of day HOWEVER IT REMAINS CRUCIAL that WATER still be used SPARINGLY as the system remains vulnerable until the repair on the Kaaiman’s Railway Bridge has been finalised. The success of the emergency measures HOWEVER remains dependent on co-operation from our Wilderness and surrounding consumers using WATER SPARINGLY.
Interim water supply
5 x 5000 litre Water Tanks have been installed and fitted with taps. The tanks are located at Bundu Supersave with 4 located along Remskoen Dr. These water tanks will be kept filled throughout the weekend. A water truck will remain stationed near Wilderness Hotel from 6am – 9pm for today.
Update on repair planning and safety considerations
The timeline for this repair project remains at 10 days ( 10 – 19 October 2019) due to the safety precautions that need to be adhered to, the specialist skills required, as well as the necessity to only work during daylight hours, again for safety reasons. Safety preparations will continue over the weekend.
Safe storage of water
If storing water in open containers please ensure that it is kept in a cold location or fridge. Use an open container within 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator, 1 to 2 days in a cold room, or a few hours in a warm room. After that, purify the remaining water again by boiling it. It is safer to store water in closed containers.
George Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience and would like to thank all of the communities of Wilderness and surrounds for their assistance over the past week.
