GEORGE NEWS - The police in George launched a manhunt last night for a group of men who robbed the business premises Timu Market in York Street last night (Wednesday 18 December) at about 18:00.
Police Spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said that according to reports available at this stage, a group of at least three men, two armed with firearms, entered the premises.
"They forced personnel and customers to the floor, demanded cash and took an undisclosed amount of cash as well as two iPhones," said Spies.
"The suspects fled the scene with the owner's Volkswagen Jetta and a Toyota Vitz belonging to a customer.
Various police units, local security companies as well as strategic partners in community safety structures jointly responded to the scene and commenced with a search for the suspects leading to the recovery of both vehicles which were found abandoned at Conville in George."
Crime scene experts combed the scene for clues and all leads are being followed up. The suspects are still at large.
