GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS - The Cape Town Weather Office has issued a thunderstorm alert.

This alert is applicable to the northern parts of the Garden Route District Municipal area, with a possibility of flash flooding in the Beaufort West area today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday), as well as in the Prince Albert and Oudtshoorn areas tomorrow (Wednesday).

Thunderstorms can be very dangerous; any thunderstorm can produce a combination of lightning, flash flooding, strong winds, hail and, in severe cases, tornadoes.

Precautions:
If possible, stay indoors - well clear of windows.

If outdoors, seek shelter immediately. However, do not seek shelter under a tree, under telephone and/or power lines, on hilltops, in isolated sheds, or under unprotected gazebos or picnic shelters.

Shelter pets and cover vehicles, disconnect electrical appliances.
