GEORGE NEWS - Three suspects were arrested, and dangerous weapons and ammunition were confiscated in Conville on Saturday 31 July in police efforts to eradicate serious and violent crimes and gender-based violence.
The arrests were made by the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team who were deployed to crime-stricken areas in George.
“The police seized a gas gun, knives and small quantities of tik as well as Mandrax tablets. The suspects aged 27, 33 and 52 remains in custody,” said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies.
On Thursday 29 July ,Conville police arrested a 35-year-old suspect in Pienaar Street at about 22:30 after a 9mm round of ammunition was found in his possession.
"The vigilant members were conducting level three lockdown enforcement operations when they stopped the man on the street,” said Spies. “A search ensued which led to the discovery of the ammunition. He was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of ammunition. The suspect is also facing a charge for contravention of the Disaster Management Act.”
All the suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court today, Monday 2 August.
