GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality has sent out a notice to confirm that all objections lodged against the new general valuation roll are being assessed and results will be available in July.
The new valuations will be implemented in the municipal accounts at the end of July.
The proposed new valuations have elicited a stream of concerns from residents. The George Ratepayers Association (GRPA) finance team earlier warned that an average real increase of 49,39% in residential property rates could be expected.
Some properties' values have increased by more than 200%.
If the objector is not satisfied with the outcome of the objection, he/she can:
• Ask for reasons (valuation detail) for the decision (Section 53 of the MPRA).
• Appeal against the decision of the municipal valuer (Section 54 of the MPRA).
All objection decisions of which the value changed with more than 10% will be reviewed by the independent valuation appeal board (Section 52 of the MPRA).
All appeals lodged by objectors will be considered by the independent valuation appeal board (Section 54 of the MPRA), according to the municipality.
