GEORGE NEWS FLASH - The 2014 Relay for Life on Saturday night through to Sunday morning raised a staggering amount of R310 000.

According to Adele Potgieter, chairperson of the organising committee, about 5 000 people went through the gates.

92 teams participated in the annual event held at the sport field at Carpe Diem to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors and in remembrance of those who have lost the fight.

Local Heroes of Hope were announced at the Relay for the first time in George. They are: Allison Nezar, Annika Oosthuizen, Alisha Small, Heimi Esau and Merlyn Cooper Williams.

They are representatives of the brave fight of cancer survivors and will be carrying out a message of hope by sharing their story and leading the fight against cancer.
