GEORGE NEWS - A police sergeant attached to the Conville detective unit, was arrested yesterday afternoon on a charge of corruption.
The suspect was caught red-handed at an accommodation establishment in town during a joint undercover operation by detectives from the Eden Cluster office and the provincial anti-corruption unit in Cape Town.
He is scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate's Court later today.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, told the George Herald this morning that corruption within the police will not be tolerated.
"As law enforcers we will not tolerate corruption at any level within the police. To be respected in our community we have to stay above suspicion at all times. We will not shy away from rooting out corruption to the core within our corps or act against one of our own who make themselves guilty of corruption," Pojie said.
