GEORGE NEWS - George motorists are experiencing unusual traffic congestion at the moment because of a number of major road closures for upgrading by George Municipality.
Sections of Newton, Hope and Merriman Street in George South have been closed off since early May.
Together with the closure earlier this week of PW Botha Boulevard, this has significantly impacted traffic flow in the industrial area.
The following summary is provided to help motorists plan their trips.
NEWTON STREET
Section south of Palgrave (9 May to 3 June - closure extended)
HOPE STREET
Section between Palgrave and Union (9 May to 6 June - closure extended)
MERRIMAN STREET
Section between Fichat and Palgrave (16 May and 20 June - closure extended)
Motorists are being redirected via Mitchell and Fichat Street. The closures are for the construction of stormwater culverts.
PW BOTHA BOULEVARD AND OSSIE URBAN ROAD INTERSECTION (TAMSUI INDUSTRIA)
The intersection is being rehabilitated in 2 phases. Phase 1 has been completed.
For the second phase the intersection will be closed until 22 October. The detours around this closure can be viewed on the map below.

N2 AT KRAAIBOSCH
Road users' patience is also being tested on the N2 between Kraaibosch and Wilderness where congestion is being experienced daily. Only one lane is open while the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) is upgrading the road.

George Municipality appeals to the public to be patient. The current inconvenience will ensure a better road experience to motorists in the future.
