GEORGE NEWS - A case was opened at the George Police Station following an incident where a child from a local early learning centre tested positive for tik after eating items from a party pack bought at a local sweets store.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies confirmed that a case was opened following the incident.
"Investigation into this matter is still ongoing and more information is being obtained."
In a WhatsApp message sent from the learning centre to parents after the incident was reported, the school said that it will no longer allow party packs at the school.
The message further reads, "On Friday, we had a couple of parties at school. Party packs from one of the classes were sent home (unopened) with the children because they'd had lots of cake."
According to the message, one child who had three items from a party pack at home, began to display "unusual behaviour".
The parents took the child to hospital. "After numerous tests, the child tested positive for "tik" in the system.
Thankfully the child is now 100% fine ... From now on, we will only allow cake or cupcakes."
