SCHOOL NEWS - George is a hive of activity this weekend with the Laerskool Blanco annual Sportfees, with several visiting schools from across the province taking part.
Hockey, rugby and netball are being played, with the matches taking place at Hoërskool Outeniqua’s sports fields.
The programme kicked off yesterday, Thursday 13 August, with tennis matches on Blanco’s own courts, while today the hockey matches are being played at Outeniqua.
The participating primary schools are Blanco, Hoekwil, Van Reede, Holy Cross Primary, Laurus, Vredekloof, Vorentoe, Knysna, Glenwood House, Overberg, Van der Hoven, Hibernia, Niko Brummer, Wynland and Settlers Park.
In another interschools event, Outeniqua Primary and Laerskool George-Suid will also face each other. Chess was played this morning, hockey is scheduled for this afternoon, and tomorrow will see netball and rugby taking place on Outeniqua Primary's fields.
Cross-country in Pacaltsdorp
Runners from across the Garden Route will also gather tomorrow morning at Olympia Skills School in Pacaltsdorp for the cross-country inter-club championships, hosted by Athletics SWD together with the Eden Schools Championships.
The inter-club championship is a qualifying event for the Athletics South Africa Championships in Pretoria on 5 September.
During the schools championship, learners will be selected for the Eden team that will represent the region at the Western Cape Championships.
